La Thomasia alpine garden at Les Plans-sur-Bex in the Vaudois Alps can be reached by car or public transport from Bex, with a little walk. It has also become very popular with mountain walking enthusiasts and nature lovers.

La Thomasia is a botanical garden dedicated to the knowledge and the protection of mountain plants. Situated at an altitude of 1,260 metres, it leans against the spectacular west face of Grand Muveran (3,051 m.) At the entrance of Vallon de Pont de Nant, the nature reserve La Thomasia was founded by the Thomas family in 1891. Its cultivation has been kept up ever since. The botanical garden comprises nearly 3,000 mountain plants classified according to their geographical origin. Local Alpine flowers bloom next to plants from the Himalayas, the Rocky Mountains, the Caucasus, the Andes, Japan, New Zealand, the Moroccan Atlas and the Arctic regions. La Thomasia, a scientific garden, is one of the two botanical gardens of the Cantonal Museum.
