Municipality of Ormonts-Dessous

Description

The large mountain commune of Ormont-Dessous occupies the downstream part of the Ormonts valley. Its area of 6,402 hectares makes it the fourth on the cantonal level.

The highest point is located at Châtillon, at 2478 m, in the Chaussy chain, while its lowest point, at 705 m, meets at the inter-municipal boundary with Aigle, in Vuargny. The five villages and hamlets are scattered on the slopes of Pic Chaussy, Mont-d'Or and Chamossaire, namely: Le Sépey, La Forclaz, Cergnat, La Comballaz-Les Voëttes and Col des Mosses. The municipality has three lakes, that of Chavonnes, Lioson and Hongrin, with its dam. The capital of the town, Le Sépey, is located at a crossroads in the Ormonts Valley where three postal bus lines and the Aigle - Le Sépey - Les Diablerets railway line converge. Because of this situation, Le Sépey houses the offices of the municipal administration. The village of Mosses, a tourist resort, offers a variety of activities throughout the year. It shelters the house of the Nordic Space of the Vaudois Alps and welcomes, every Sunday from June to September, the highest market and flea market in French-speaking Switzerland. The Ormonans will be happy to welcome you to their beautiful valley, whether in summer or winter, as hosts or as residents.
