Enjoy a magnificent high-altitude route from the top station of the Leysin-Tête d'Aï ski lift. The snowshoe trail of 5 km of medium difficulty leads past the Mayen refuge to the Chamois quarry.
The Mayen snowshoe hike offers spectacular views. About 5 km long, with a vertical drop of 468 m., the medium difficulty trail starts from the Leysin-Tête d'Aï ski lift (LTA). Once you reach the top, take the path on your right that leads down in the direction of the Mayen refuge. After about ten minutes, you arrive at the refuge where it is worth stopping to taste a speciality or have a drink, while enjoying the magnificent panorama of the surrounding peaks. Leaving the refuge, enjoy the view by carefully following the ski slope for about 500 m. until you reach the marked snowshoe trail. Continue downhill for about a kilometre and a half before you reach the Temeley chalet, charming alpine refreshment bar where you can enjoy a warm meal and admire the view from the terrace. Then, the hike descends slowly to the Chamois quarry, located in the heights of Leysin, with a beautiful view of the mountains. The descent to the Chamois quarry is easy, however, some sections are shared with skiers, which can make the terrain slippery. This hike is also possible in the uphill direction, starting from the Chamois quarry.
Warning: some sections are shared with skiers, which can make for slippery terrain.
