Château d'Aigle
Place du Château 1
1860 Aigle
Surrounded entirely by vineyards, the Château d'Aigle is at the heart of a wine-growing tradition that goes back thousands of years. Chasselas is the name of the region’s primary grape, producing an excellent dry Chasselas. This variety is grown in the Rhône valley, in the canton of Vaud and in the terraced vineyards of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Built at the end of the 12th century by the Aigle Knights family, the castle has been transformed many times over the years. Once imposing symbol, prestigious residence, seat of the court and the prisons, and a hospice for the poor, the castle nowadays hosts four reception rooms, an escape room and the Vine, Wine and Wine Labels Museum.
Nestled within the Chablais AOC wine region, this museum embraces the culture of the vine and wine making and invites visitors to discover it with all their senses. It is a must for every wine passionate and a true experience for families as well.
This interactive museum is dedicated to the fascinating world of wine. Founded by the Confrérie du Guillon to save the threatened Vaud winegrowing heritage, it gathers over 10,000 objects, that narrate the history of viticulture, as well as its tradition and delights. Observing the authentic and often skilfully crafted tools, such as presses, stills, channels, barrels, masses, bottles, corks, corkscrews, wine testers, glasses and decanters, you can sense the intrinsic value of winemaking here in the Chablais region.
Topics such as agriculture, biodiversity, taste education, ecology, economy and art, and of course, celebration are all explored in an interactive and animating way.
