The Col de la Croix will reopen to traffic on Friday 8 May 2026, weather permitting.
The Col de la Croix is a destination well worth rediscovering now that it has reopened, offering unspoilt nature and stunning Alpine views. The Col de la Croix mountain pasture is an ideal stop-off point, whilst the hiking trails reveal superb views of the Alps. Road and gravel cyclists will also find this an ideal route for travelling from Villars to Les Diablerets via the pass. The pass is also accessible by public transport via the Villars–Les Diablerets bus route.
Nearby, the striking gypsum pyramids offer a unique geological feature, shaped by erosion over time. Nestled in an unspoilt natural setting, these impressive formations can be explored just a short walk from the pass.
This road closes every year towards the end of October for the entire winter season.
On 21 June, the prestigious Tour de Suisse will cross this iconic pass connecting Villars-sur-Ollon and Les Diablerets, offering spectators a spectacular backdrop in the heart of the Vaud Alps.
A few weeks later, from 10 to 12 July, the pass will also host the international event The Majestics UCI, featuring gravel and Gran Fondo races, further confirming its status as a must-ride route for cycling enthusiasts.

Not far from there, Lake Chavonnes is the perfect place to unwind. This peaceful spot is ideal for a family stroll, a break in the sunshine or, for the more adventurous, a dip in its refreshing waters.
From the pass, there are several hiking trails that offer an easy descent to the village of Les Diablerets. You can also head to the picturesque village of Taveyanne, or extend your adventure all the way to Solalex by joining the trail Bretaye to Solalex, for a complete immersion in the heart of the Alpes Vaudoises.
