Have you ever seen the roof of a chalet covered in small wooden slabs? They're called tavillons!
Tavillonnage is a wood-based roof-covering technique that has been used historically in our mountain regions for centuries. This ancestral know-how is the job of the tavillonneur.
The choice of wood, splitting and preparation of the "tavillons" take place in winter. We invite you to find out more about this "tavillon splitter" activity. Most of this work is still done by hand, and requires a good knowledge of wood and its characteristics.
You'll meet the "splitters" who will explain their trade and its secrets to you! This is a unique opportunity to meet enthusiasts who practise one of the oldest trades in our region. To discover...
