The guided tours organized by the Tourist Offices in Rougemont, Château-d'Oex and Rossinière are ideal opportunities to discover the cultural and architectural heritage of the villages of Pays-d´Enhaut. The walks last around one and a half hours and are led by experienced French, English or German-speaking guides who will be happy to recount stories and anecdotes related to the destination of your choice.
In Rougemont you can stop in front of one of the many chalets with sculpted pediments and façades decorated with flowers and biblical quotes. Some of them are over 400 years old! The main street also has many treasures on display, including a house dating from 1623, one of the oldest in the village, and a granary: the Grenier de Marie (1688).
One should not go through Rossinière without taking a small detour to visit the Grand Chalet, the former residence of the painter, Balthus. Constructed in 1754, the wooden chalet is still considered to be one of the largest wooden building in Switzerland, if not the whole of Europe. Classed as a building of national importance, as is the cathedral in Lausanne, the 5-floor façade includes 113 windows. Truly a sight to behold.
You can also visit Château-d'Oex, where the Temple (1470) perched on a hill at the entrance to the village houses magnificent stained glass windows and also provides a breathtaking view of the village and the the surrounding landscape.
You can optionally make your walk even more interesting by tasting a selection of local products from the region at the end. Reservation required two days beforehand at the latest. These walks are open to everyone and take place in all weathers.
