The Sarine River rises near Glacier 3000 in the Lac de Sénin in the canton of Valais. It then begins its course between the Bernese villages and pastures of the Saanenland.
As soon as it passes through the Vanel Gorge, the Sarine becomes Vaudoise! You can see it from the three villages of the Pays-d'Enhaut: Rougemont, Château-d'Œx and Rossinière. It then continues its course into the canton of Fribourg.
Its banks offer many places to sit in the cool of the hot summer days. Pack your picnic basket and sit by the water for a gourmet break! Its mountain water also allows you to cool your toes or take an invigorating bath.
For the more courageous, try your hand at rafting in the gorges and rapids of the Sarine. Canyoning routes are also available.
