The Cloisters District is a picturesque jumble of houses, the Protestant Church, two restaurants with scenic terraces, numerous wine cellars and of course Aigle Château itself ; the town’s signature monument since the 12th Century.
The narrow streets are just waiting to be discovered on foot. High stone walls decorated with flowers are all around and the ancient fountains provide fresh drinking water. The vineyards spread out as far as the eye can see, way below and beyond the château.
During Pentecost weekend local winegrowers hold the fort in the Cloisters District for the annual Wine Cellars Open Day. Some 20 different cellars uncork their latest vintages for an appreciative winetasting public.
