Chemin des Ballons 2
1660 Château-d'Œx
The Gummfluh is the highest point of its mountain range in the south of the Pays-d'Enhaut. Its summit lies on the border between the cantons of Vaud and Bern.
Normally, a skier-mountaineer aims to reach a designated summit and then ski back down. This route is an exception. The terrain makes it necessary to deposit the skis.
Having to reach the summit without skis could leave a feeling of incompleteness, when the summit delivers a dreamy panorama, it would be futile to give up its conclusion.
As you climb, pass the right bank and follow the bank path to Lätzi Weid, then the left bank to the Plan de Comborsin. Then climb to the left to reach the ESE ridge of Pointes Sur Combe at 1850m. Follow the ridge and cross the large S slopes of Sur Combe obliquely to reach the pass between this point and the Gummfluh. Put the skis down just at the base of the E ridge. Then climb this delicate ridge which slopes up and becomes snowy again until the summit.
For the descent, the same route upwards. Leave the E ridge of Sur Combe higher than the ascent, around 2110m to take a beautiful couloir dominated by the rocks of Sur Combe. It leads back to the Plan de Comborsin.
