Ski touring | Dent de Ruth

Description

Ruth's sofa corridor!

Culminating at an altitude of 2'236m, the Dent de Ruth is a tripoint between the cantons of Berne, Fribourg and Vaud. Follow the Fenils valley road and reach the bottom of the valley at around 1500m. Then follow it past the Chalet de Ruth and directly to the foot of the couloir, to the left of the remarkable SSW spur of the Dent de Ruth. Go up the couloir, first very widely on the right bank, then reaching the bottom halfway up. Reach the shoulder at the base of the terminal rocks. From there to the summit climb, first along a vague couloir, then fairly directly to the left. The same route presents itself for the descent.

Practical Information

RECOMMENDATIONS: - duration: 7 hours to the summit - vertical drop: 1070m on skis and 70m climbing - accessible between February and April (you have to wait until the couloir is well filled with snow) - difficulty: D. Descent of the couloir in S4 with passages of S5, quite exposed. The climb to the summit includes rocky passages of II, but very snowy in winter. - equipment: ice axes, crampons; rope for the summit - check avalanche zones before setting out on the mountain. PARKING & TRANSPORT: - access by train with the MOB line (stop Saanen)
