The majority of the planted vines are Chasselas. This grape has secured the reputation of Aigle wines since the middle ages. Traditional reds are Gamay and Pinot noir. The range of grape varieties is enriched by Gamaret, Garanoir, Merlot, Sauvignon blanc and Pinot gris.
Soil derived from glacial moraines as well as the microclimate of the foehn wind give the Chasselas decidedly distinguished traits that enhance the appellation’s reputation.
Aigle also sets itself apart with its magnificent terraced vines whose impressive walls provide a unique ecosystem for various protected species. The heat stored in the walls during the day creates a unique microclimate for the vines, enabling them to mature naturally.
