Looking at the river from the quay, you get the impression that the bed is deep and you are not mistaken. The quay and the bridges over the Avançon were raised after the exceptional rains that fell on the region between 11 and 15 October 2000.
And this was not the first time that the Avançon, the mythical river of Bex which gathers waters from the Vallon de Nant as well as from Anzeindaz, had caused disasters in the streets of the town. The most important flood took place in 1910, a real catastrophe with the unleashing of the elements in the whole region (and indeed in all of Europe).
With the years and experience, the authorities and all the specialists in the field took the bull by the horns. Drastic measures were taken: bridges were rebuilt, the river was made safe and even a "flood dump" was built under the Bévieux. Since then, fingers are crossed.
