Fondation Balthus
La Chapelle Balthus
1658 Rossinière
In the centre of the village of Rossinière, the Balthus Chapel is a permanent meeting place with the famous artist, who lived in the Grand Chalet for the last 24 years of his life. Through three documentary films, as well as reproductions of photographs, letters and works, it invites the visitor to enter the universe and intimacy of this immense figurative painter of the 20th century.
9 important films by the director Jacqueline Veuve are presented to the public on woodworking. These films are jewels on the know-how of wood craftsmen.
Balthus lived in the Grand Chalet de Rossinière until his death in 2001. Still occupied by his wife, Countess Setsuko Klossowska de Rola, and their daughter, the building now houses the Balthus Foundation, created with the aim of perpetuating and making known the artist's work.
In the garden below the chapel, visitors can also visit the tomb of the painter.
