To the north of the majestic Grand Muveran mountain, at the present site of the Plan-Névé glacier, there was once a magnificent pasture. The mountain was so beautiful and fertile that in such prosperity, the cowherds played shuffleboard with goat's cheese and skittles with butter heads as balls.
One evening, as a violent storm threatens, a poor and wrinkled-looking woman comes to the door of the Plan-Névé chalet. In a tone of voice that evokes compassion, she begs the cowherds for a place to stay for the night and "ona crota", a crust of bread with a little butter.
The cowherds, although in abundance, reply that they have nothing for her and that she should leave as soon as possible. The poor woman, as furious as she was hurt, left the inhospitable cottage in silence; then, at some distance, she turned around and, looking at the pasture with a terrible and prophetic eye, uttered this curse: Tf Balla pllanna: Plan-Névé: Jamé terreina te ne te reverré: (Beautiful plain Plan-Névé, I will never see you again).
Immediately a dreadful storm of snow, hail and furious wind rushes over this beautiful mountain and covers it in a few moments with a shroud of ice which, for many years, has only been thickening.
Today, the glacier is shrinking, which gives some semblance of truth to the fact that there was once a pasture here.
The discovery over the years in the scree of stone and ice, of an old bridge arch, an iron chain for tying up cattle, beams and large logs ... these residues attest to the presence of dwellings or probable forests in these high regions.
