After a day on the slopes of the Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets ski area, my colleagues and I made a stopover in Bex. We wanted to try out axe throwing before heading home. A great way to avoid traffic jams!

We took the car to get to Bex. The place is ideally located, less than two minutes from the motorway to get back to Lausanne. There is also a large free car park right outside, which is a real plus.
We are warmly welcomed by Jason, the manager of the centre, who explains the formalities associated with the activity. There are three different introductory programmes on offer, all of which are suitable for beginners. We opt for the ‘advanced’ programme, which lasts two hours. As soon as we've selected our program, we're ready to go!
As soon as we pass the entrance door, we hear the sound of axes blows hitting the wooden targets. This immediately creates the right atmosphere. The friendly and welcoming place has a lumberjack vibe. There is a bar area where we can refresh ourselves in between, as well as numerous games such as billiards and pinball.

We start with a training session. Jason teaches us how to hold the axe properly and gives us tips on how to improve our throw. After a few attempts, we have understood the principle and are ready to move on to the sporting side. We take part in mini-games to compete, the aim being to score the most points with five throws. And guess what? I win!

We have a great time. We even have the chance to try throwing with cards, spades, different types of axes and a pickaxe - a nod to the salt mines of Bex. At each step, Jason explains the technique and shows us different types of throws, which makes the experience even more exciting.
Once we've exhausted ourselves, we decide on a local beer, and it's really worth it! This bar is characterised by the fact that it only offers craft brews from the region.
