The Bex marsh is a remarkable nature reserve, classified since 1955. Located at the foot of the Chiètres Hill, it hosts exceptional biodiversity thanks to ongoing human management. The area features ponds, reed beds, and groves, providing habitat for numerous bird, mammal, amphibian, and insect species.
Constant efforts are required to maintain its delicate balance: water level regulation, pond excavation, reed cutting, and combating invasive species. Martial Pot, a passionate naturalist, played a crucial role in preserving and enhancing the site. In 1998, the Grand Marais was recognized as a national site of importance for wetlands and amphibian reproduction.
Today, the marsh continues to evolve, supported by local and national initiatives, adding to the rich landscape and ecological diversity of Bex.
A path leads from the Chiètres road to the main pond.
Access from the west side of the road to reach the reed bed; take your boots.
