Eglise Catholique Chablais vaudois
Rue du Rhône 4
1860 Aigle
These places of worship are generally representative of an architectural era rich in beautiful design. Visitors are also welcome inside as long as they abide by the different rites and customs of each particular religion.
The most ancient religious site is located at the foot of Aigle Château. The Cloisters Church is noted in records dating back to the XII Century and was founded by monks from the St-Maurice Monastery. During the Reform it became the parish church replacing that of Saint-Jacques. The Catholic Church is located in the centre of town.
As for German speaking parishioners in Chablais, they can congregate at the Farel Church which bears the name of the reformer who preached there in the 16th Century. The Annunciata Chapel is the result of a vision experienced by Sister Madeleine Marie Waldmeier. It would however take some 32 years before the chapel was to open its doors to all worshippers regardless of their particular religion.
