Fountain of the old stand
Overview
The date 1953 inscribed on the small pond near the Stand dates back to a time when this corner of Bex was mainly devoted to agriculture and military needs.
Three generations later, this intermediate zone between the centre of the town and the countryside is gradually being transformed into a space for leisure and crafts and even a trendy place for lovers of so-called "responsible and sustainable" cuisine.
To achieve this situation, it took a serious push from the local authorities who decided to transform this former Vauvrise stand and invest more than 2 million francs in it. The initiative, launched in 2018, is fortunate, otherwise this pretty spot, located on a road populated with beautiful houses, could have become a simple place of passage for cars taking a shortcut to go up to Châtel, a hamlet of Bex located behind the hill of Chiètres and the Tower of Duin.
The old Vauvrise shooting range was built in 1877 and for generations was the delight of all lovers of the famous pink or blue and white "cordons" until the end of the last century.
But even though the building was listed in the Vaud architectural census, water infiltration threatened to ruin this witness to the past. So the utmost was done to turn this old structure into a building that could be used all year round. The decision was taken to almost completely refurbish the building, to create a terrace on the south side, to fit out a semi-professional kitchen, to install a removable stage with sound and lights to allow small cultural productions.
The beautiful artisanal zone, on the other side of the road, has also adapted to the needs of our time. Several micro-SMEs have set up shop there in what had long been the Bex military arsenal.
