Its name, Cedar, comes from the Arabic "Kedron" meaning strength. The Greek "Kedros" refers to all conifers. The Celts used cedar resin to embalm the heads of their most noble enemies. As for the Egyptians, they used the rot-proof wood of the Cedar to make sarcophagi and prepared ointments with the essential oil to embalm mummies. Today, an essential oil is still extracted from the bark of the Atlas Cedar. It is used for skin ailments and for coughs, colds and flu.
