2. Blue Arizona Cypress

Description

Remarkable trees walk

The few trees along this road, which forms the main entrance to Aigle, were probably planted here to welcome travellers from the Lake Geneva region. This Cypress is an evergreen, medium-sized tree whose green female cones (pips or pine cones) turn grey to grey-brown at maturity, i.e. 2 years after pollination. They remain closed for several years. When they are in the wild, they only open when the parent tree disappears, often in a forest fire. In this way, the seeds can germinate on soil that has been stripped bare by fire.

Practical Information

Latin name: Cupressus arizonica Origin: Arizona, USA Circumference: 320 cm Height: 20 m Lifespan: 300 years
