Overview
Culminating at an altitude of 1255 m. near the Col des Mosses in the Vaud Alps, the Hongrin dam is an important water reservoir for the production of electricity, but it is also a very impressive place for walking and fishing.
Built at the end of the 1960s, the Hongrin Dam collects snow melt water from nine streams, as well as water pumped from Lake Geneva through some twenty kilometres of underground galleries.
The dam is equipped with a double vault of 95 and 123 metres in height where you can walk in peace. The reservoir has a maximum capacity of 52 million cubic metres spread over a depth of 105 metres and 160 hectares, making it ideal for fishing and swimming.
The artificial lake of the Hongrin reveals a landscape of pastures where numerous herds graze. The sound of their bells can be heard far and wide, adding a peaceful atmosphere and a touch of alpine folklore to your hikes and mountain bike rides.
